Join My Journey Solving the Human Resource Mystery - AKA Can I Map the Next 40 Years of my Career in 3.5 Months?!


Hello hello and welcome to my blog!

I hope I keep your attention long enough for you to follow my journey over the next 3.5 months; I somehow plan to simultaneously figure out how to publicly blog (never done that before) and pinpoint my career passions (definitely don't know what I'm doing with that).

I'm so excited to spend the semester at redpepper, an advertising agency here in Nashville, TN, as an Operations Intern. I will be reporting to the Director of People Operations, and will spend the next 3 something months deep-diving into 5 different functional areas of Human Resource Management (talent acquisition, training and development, benefits/compensation, employee relations, and corporate culture) in order to figure out exactly where my future career passions lie. Every couple of weeks, I'll give you an update on my progress in one of these functional areas, and who knows maybe I'll learn a thing or two along the way!

So that's it. Buckle up folks, you're officially part of solving the Human Resource Mystery (get it? like Management but it's Mystery instead? Ha. Comedy was never my forte).

Thank you to anyone who joined me on my journey this semester in gaining experience within 5 different functional areas (talent acquisition, training and development, benefits/compensation, employee relations, and corporate culture) of HR! 1 month in and 2.5 months to go, I figured it was time to update everyone on my progress! Almost every week, I've been lucky to be able to work on projects across all 5 functional areas that I identified; it's been interesting to be able to vary my work and get a well-rounded Human Resource Management (HRM) experience right off the bat in my internship. These past two weeks, a lot of my work has focused on what many people think of when they hear the term Human Resources: talent acquisition; therefore, this will be the focus of my first blog post! Corporate Culture - The Best Organizational Glue

It's hard to believe that the time has come for my final learning share about the fifth functional area of Human Resources that I explored: corporate culture. Although this is often the industry term for this area of HR, redpepper really  dislikes the word "corporate" due to the unique nature (culture!) of the agency, so you will often find me interchangeably using the term "corporate culture" with phrases like "organizational culture" or just "culture." I have long been passionate about corporate culture, or rather the idea of it, but had never gotten hands-on project exposure to it before.
