Benefits and Compensation - There's More Than Moolah

Image
I'm back for yet another learning share - this time on a topic I was definitely LESS than excited to learn about. For many potential HR generalists (myself included) the words "benefits and compensation" are a terrifying, dark place where you don't talk to people and sit and crunch numbers all day. The first thing that came to mind when I would hear those two words would immediately be "money" and "boring," and so I'm thankful that the past two months at redpepper have taught me otherwise. Through my work in researching and developing a new sabbatical program for the agency, part of their compensation package, I have learned that although salary packages are an important piece of an employee's compensation, there is so  much more that a company can offer to keep employees happy and performing at their best. My first benefits-related assignment was to audit redpepper's current sabbatical program, compare it to industry (and outside) ex

Training & Development - Grow Personally & Professionally

Two days away from Fall Break, it's hard to believe that my experience at redpepper is halfway done! The time has been flying by like crazy and the broad exposure I've gotten to the agency as an Operations Intern is clear. Though I've been bogged down with a lot of hiring as we expand the organization (we have 6 open positions right now!), I have been fortunate to still be involved in other aspects of People Operations, as well. Because of this, over the course of my time here I have sat in on many training & development meetings and little projects, such as purchasing and transitioning to a new onboarding/document management software called Trainual. However, the last two weeks I

Employee Relations - Keeping Lots of People Always Happy

Hello hello!! If you're still reading this props, and thank you for being emotionally invested in me still having absolutely no idea what the end goal of my career is :) Switching gears from talent acquisition (though I've still been doing a lot of that with two new jobs posted in the last two weeks), I've been focusing a lot of my time at redpepper on "employee relations." To me, I always thought these two words were incredibly vague and could encapsulate so many different categories of HR work. Although my last few weeks of experience have changed my mindset on employee relations slightly, I am still fascinated with how many different directions this work can go. While at redpepper, I've been heavily involved with researching and developing a quarterly employee engagement survey, which directly affects our ability to keep our employees not only satisfied with their redpepper experience, but also ensures that they continue to be the best advocates of our wo
